What Happened to "Public" Schools?

Today is the first day of school for the 2 mobile food processing units... and they want money.  Not for school supplies, but for "fees".  Fees for this, charges for that, lunch costs this much, except if you make this much, then it costs nothing....

Whatever happened to the concept that property (or rent in lieu of) and payroll taxes pay for these schools?  The lion's share of the tax bills around here go to the schools, and yet we still have to cough up for them to go to "free" school.

I saw a blog post somewhere about parents in Ohio having to come up with almost 5k in fees for their *one* kid to go to school.  Hell, the private Christian school around here costs less than that, and their education is probably 10 times better.

It might behoove some folks to look at their kids' fees.  It might be cheaper to send them to private school.

And better.

The answer to every problem encountered by public schools is "MORE MONEY." Strangely, it never accomplishes what they say it will!

Woo hoo! I'm back online after 2 weeks of broken network card and no internet!

Good point about public schools. Any government thing has all kinds of hidden costs. Of course, we homeschooled, because we didn't like what we saw coming out of the government schools. And actually the Christian schools weren't a whole lot better. It was a sacrifice on one hand, but the best decision we ever made on the other.
