Pain

Discussing web gear on one of the forums I frequent, the subject of vests came up. When they first came out in force in the late 80s and early 90s, we gravitated to them because they did look seriously tacticool, before that particular term came out.

As we used them on a regular basis, we discovered something.

First of all, if you're running and have to hit the ground in the prone position, all that ammo (as well as the pistol) is going to HURT. There is a reason why we wore our ammo pouches out to the side.

Second of all, if you're hugging the ground in a firefight, you can't GET to your ammo or the pistol, 'cause you're LAYING on them.

I retired before the ballistic plate thing became standard issue, but I can imagine the fun having to hit the ground wearing that crap, too.

I'll stick with my old ALICE gear. Worked fine for me for 20 years.

I just have my old web belt with harness and the "butt pack o' life". Nothing special. I'm looking for something that'll hold my 20 round tapco mags with the duckbills, but other than that I'm not a big gear 'ho.
